Handweaving Courses

HANDWEAVING
ONE-DAY SEMINAR

Designed for individuals and groups interested in understanding the ancient art of handweaving in Umbria.

A one-day workshop will consist of six hours of teaching and will cover the following topics:
• History
• Preparation of card designs for jacquard looms
• Weaving demonstration

Booking must be made one month prior to date desired.

MINIMUM ENROLLMENT OF SIX STUDENTS.

HANDWEAVING
BASIC COURSE • A
ONE WEEK

Course designed for those who have NO WEAVING EXPERIENCE.
Participants will learn the basic weaving techniques.

This course will last one week. Ciasses will be held four times a week. There will be six hours of instruction per day.
• 10 hours of theory
• 14 hours of practice

TOPICS TO BE COVERED
• History of Umbrian weaving
• Working with different patterns on original pedal and jacquard looms

ENROLLMENT LIMITED TO SIX STUDENTS.

TWO WEEKS

A course designed for those who have NO WEAVING EXPERIENCE. Participants will learn the basic weaving techniques.

This course will last two weeks. Classes will be held four times a week. There will be six hours of instruction per day.
• 20 hours of theory
• 28 hours of practice

• Dressing the loom
• Working with different patterns on original pedal and jacquard looms

THREE WEEKS

This course will last three weeks. Classes will be held four times a week. There will be six hours of instruction per day.

A course designed for those who already have a good basic knowledge of weaving techniques and are interested in learning more about new patterns and decorations inspired by Umbrian tradition.

This course will last one week. Classes will be held four times a week. There will be six hours of instruction per day

• 14 hours of practice

• History of weaving and symbolism in Umbrian textile
• Preparation of card designs for jacquard looms
• Working with different weaves on original pedal looms and jaquard looms
