History and Background
Occhietto ("small eye") Design
The Occhietto is a design typical in the Umbrian peasant tradition. This design comes from the ancient coat of arms called "Occhio di Pernice" or Partridge's Eye found in the fabrics of the Middle East in the first and second century B.C. Originate from the Indo-European cultures.
Doves and Grapevines Design
Even though this design was created only a decade ago (1989/90), this design recalls symbolic motifs present in many of the antique "Tovaglie Perugine" (Perugian Tablecloths). The grapevines with grapes represent the Tree of Life, and the Doves, the soul.
